Add a texture to an image

How To Tip:

Add a texture to an image.

1. Select the layer containing the image to which you want to add a texture.

If you want to apply a texture to only a specific element or area in the image, create a selection marquee around the area using one of the selection tools.

2. Choose Layer > New Fill Layer > Pattern.
3. In the New Layer dialog box, type a name for the layer.
4. Set the Opacity to around 20 percent, and click OK. You will make final adjustments to the opacity after you create the layer.
5. In the Pattern Fill dialog box, click the arrow adjacent to the pattern thumbnail, and choose a pattern from the pop-up palette.
6. To scale the pattern, click the arrow next to the Scale value, and adjust the slider to the value you want.
7. Make sure Link with Layer is selected, and click OK.
8. In the Layers palette, make sure the new pattern layer is selected. Then click the arrow next to the Opacity value, and adjust the slider until the blend of the texture and image is to your liking.
