Setting slice table export options (ImageReady)

When exporting slices for use on the Web, Photoshop and ImageReady can optionally export an HTML file providing instructions for a browser in how to display the slices in the proper layout. By default, this exported HTML uses tables to ensure consistent appearance with the original sliced composition. (See Working with tables (ImageReady).) The Table palette in ImageReady provides an additional level of control over how this formatting table is exported.

Note: Changes you make to the structure of an exported HTML file don't affect the appearance of the image in your work area; they only modify what it looks like in a browser.

To set table export options with the Table palette:

  1. Choose Window > Table.
  2. Select the table for which you want to set options. (See Selecting tables.) By default, the selected table is the top-level table encompassing the entire composition area.
  3. Enter a name for the table in the ID input box of the Table palette. Specifying a name for an exported table allows for increased conformity with standards for Web accessibility.
  4. Choose a preferred formatting for table export from the Auto Slicing pop-up menu:
  5. Note: Changing this preference may affect how auto slices are generated.

    • Default maintains the default table formatting.
    • As Columns (rowspan) favors the creation of vertical columns in an exported HTML table.
    • As Rows (colspan) favors the creation of horizontal rows in an exported HTML table.

To set table dimensions:

  1. Select the table for which you want to set options using the Slice Select tool. By default, the selected table is the top-level table encompassing the entire composition area.
  2. If it is not visible, show the Dimensions options section of the Table palette by clicking the Dimensions arrow.
  3. Determine the width and height of the exported table by choosing Pixels or Percent from the appropriate pop-up menu. Specifying the width or height as a percent will allow the exported table to dynamically adjust in size, based on the size of a Web page visitor's browser window.
  4. Note: The current X and Y coordinates of the table's upper left corner are displayed in this section for reference. They cannot be changed.

To set table HTML attributes:

It's best to set the table HTML attributes only for tables that contain No Image slices. Changing these settings with Image slices can break your tables up in undesirable ways.

  1. Select the table for which you want to set options. (See Selecting tables.) By default, the selected table is the top-level table encompassing the entire composition area.
  2. If it is not visible, show the Cell options section of the Table palette by clicking the Cell arrow.
  3. Choose a value for each of the optional attributes:
    • Border determines the width in pixels of the border around the table on export.
    • Pad determines the amount of padding in pixels for each table cell. Padding is the amount of space between the edge of a table cell and its contents.
    • Space determines the amount of spacing in pixels between each table cell. Spacing is the distance between the edges of any two table cells.
